Though better known for their sailing boats, the team behind the Spirit 40 have turned their hand to the wold of powerboats with consummate ease.

The P40 is one of those boats that you buy with your heart; there are plenty of 40ft boats on the market which deliver more space, more accommodation and better protection but who on earth cares about that stuff when your boats looks so good.

The craftsmanship is mouthwatering: Brazilian cedar wood planking supported by sapele ring frames makes for a very light but strong structure and everything from the dash, to the windscreen surround and even the steering wheel are all in fabulously polished walnut.

Of course the drivetrain is thoroughly modern with a pair of 260-400hp Yanmar sterndrives, which should be good for a top speed of 40 knots if you spec the larger ones.

It’s an expensive bit of kit but that’s what you get for hand-built perfection.
