VIDEO: 24 hours on the Prestige 520

To really get beneath the skin of the Prestige 520, we spend 24 hours on board in the South of France

The view from my cabin window is filled with Le Suquet, the old quarter of Cannes. In the foreground there is a 35m Bennetti, its crew busily scrubbing teak and shining stainless steel. Behind, Promenade de la Croisette is coming to life and the vista is topped with the imposing Musée de la Castre bathed in morning sunlight.

It’s a special scene to wake up to and it’s made all the better by the night’s sleep I have enjoyed in the master cabin of the Prestige 520. We arrived the night before in time for dinner in the old town before heading to the berth in the Vieux Port to meet the boat. The superyacht spotting is of a high standard in this corner of the French Riviera but the 520 looks the part thanks to its handsome low-swept lines, mirrored glass and stylish on-board lighting.

The plan is quite simple. We have flights booked out of Nice so we’re going to stay on board in Cannes and then work our way east to Nice taking in a couple of the local hotspots to find somewhere for lunch on the hook.

We want to get to know the 520 intimately. Launched at the Cannes Boat Show last year, it joined the Prestige line-up alongside the 500, a boat that has been hugely successful and between the flybridge and sportscruiser versions, is up to nearly 450 units sold.

The 520 has three cabins, a full-beam master amidships with Prestige’s trademark direct access from the saloon and a VIP suite and twin cabin forward. With just three of us on board, the amount of space on offer feels very luxurious.

There is terrific privacy on offer thanks to the separate access to the master cabin. It’s not really a cabin, though; it’s a comfortable ensuite bedroom with oodles of headroom, plentiful floorspace and a good dollop of natural light thanks to the long hull windows.
