When interviewing an important person it’s important to be laid back, but not too laid back, as this reporter found out

Most journalists want to be known for their intrepid investigative skills, but Dutch reporter Martje Oesterholt will probably be best remembered for her lack of balance, as this week’s Boat Fail shows.

While interviewing the mayor of Kampen about a local sailing event, the smartly dressed reporter leans on a rope for balance.

Clearly more of a landlubber, she loses her footing and plunges into the harbour.

The crew quickly reacts by throwing a lifesaver after her, and a quick-thinking sound operator extends the boom mic to capture her reactions.

It has been suggested that the video was a PR stunt to promote the show, and if it was it has certainly worked, with more than 500,000 views racked up on YouTube in the past three months.

Regardless of the provenance, it has us all chuckling at MBM HQ.
