Raymarine Element: Next gen chartplotters promise life-like clarity

Super-high frequencies boost the image resolution on the forthcoming Raymarine Element chartplotters

Raymarine Element is a new series of sonar/GPS chartplotters from Raymarine that slot between its budget Dragonfly and top-spec Axiom models.

Unlike the Axiom range, these are keypad controlled, rather than touch screen. Raymarine describes them as ‘optimised for a simplified user experience’.

However they still use a Lighthouse operating system and feature quad core processors like the Axiom range for instant response.

With an emphasis firmly on fishing, the headlines are all sonar related. Element’s HyperVision 1.2 megahertz sonar technology uses super-high frequencies (1.2 megahertz) and CHIRP technology to boost the resolution of DownVision, SideVision, and RealVision 3D to a new level, letting you see structures, vegetation, and fish with what the company describes as ‘amazing life-like clarity’.

There’s even the facility to ‘draw your own charts’ by mapping the bottom in real time with the transducer. Available with 7-inch, 9-inch or 12-inch displays, the series should be available in spring 2019 with prices starting from £645.
